Remember Sid James admiring Barbara Windsors “bristols” in one of those low budget British Carry On films? On Saturday we saw debutant Michael Chopra’s ability to seize upon David James “boobs” and help himself to two goals either side of Lee Martin’s immaculate side foot finish to ensure a comfortable 3-0 victory for town.
It took us about four and a half hours to get to Ashton Gate, there was quite a lot of slow and queueing traffic on the M25 possibly due to it being closed at junction’s 8&9 overnight after an accident involving an overturned lorry. We got there before two o'clock had a quick bite to eat and then a wander around the ground.
I like the “old school” grounds so I was not disappointed in Ashton Gate, we had half of the “Wedlock Stand” with it’s obstructed views, seats with no backs and a low roof which held in the noise of the fans, mainly the 1600 plus traveling Ipswich ones (especially after thirteen minutes when we took the lead). As always David James took a lot of stick from the “Blue Army” and they also picked on a Bristol City fan who obviously looked like Justin Bieber! However former blue John Stead got a generous round of applause when he was substituted in the second half.
So it was a very happy trip back to Suffolk and following the weekends results we are top of the league!
