It's Five Two - Alarm Bells Ringing. ITFC v Southampton 16 08 2011

The transfer window clock is ticking down and as the five two scoreline underlined time is not on our side in our quest to sign a decent centre half.
We were only five minutes into the match and a soft goal down to the Saints last night when I had a deja-vu moment as I stood  watching from the North Stand. Thursday  21st April 2011, ITFC 1-5 Norwich (coincidently the last time we had a league match under  the floodlights at Portman Road).
It was all there, a  nice warm evening, the anticipation of a decent game, large away support etc. But it couldn’t happen again could it? It did, we were shocking at the back once again and leaked another five at home. Personally I was more depressed than at Easter, it’s not about losing but how you lose, time and time again Southampton just took advantage of our defensive frailties and made us look mugs draining any confidence that we may have had. The  Saints were 3-0 up and seemed to be out of site at the interval with goals from Lambert (2) and Connolly.
Paul  Jewell changed the team and formation for the second hand half bringing on Jet and Lee Martin for Scotland and Mark Kennedy, I wondered if he would use Keith  Andrew as a make shift centre half to replace Tommy Smith - the poor boy looked shot to bits and needs a break, a time out, to rebuild his confidence.
We came out all guns blazing and got ourselves back into the game with goals from Andrew and Jet. It’s not often that the sixth goal in a game is the vital one but I honestly think that had we have got it we would have gone on to win the match, Southampton were struggling to contain us, however another lapse at the back allowed the Saints to extend their lead, this time it was Lallana who scored, game over!  He then added his second and their fifth in injury time.
On this performance Paul knows that he still needs to wind a few of his squad up and also add a few more jewels to get us ticking again!
It’s ironic that there are no bookies inside the ground at the moment, Ladbrokes pulling out due to a lack of profit, they would have certainly cleaned up with that result.
