- Tomorrow we are off to Ashton Gate for Town’s first game of the season v Bristol City, I have looking forward to this since mid June when the fixtures were published. I was on holiday in California and printed off the fixture list at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael at 6am and worked out which away games I would try to get to. I wanted Brighton away so that we would be the first opponents in their new “Amex Community Stadium” but at least I got the first three letters right (Bri) and it’s another ground that I haven’t been to!
The eve of the season is the time of the year that people are getting excited and carried away about their teams prospects whether it is Man Utd winning the Champions League or (welcome back to league football) AFC Wimbledon surviving in league 2, there’s new kits, new players even new hope. We’ll wake up tomorrow and start to unwrap our season, and like christmas as the presents are opened we’ll find that what we get is not always quite what we wished for, then realise that Santa is a phoney! When Roy Keane arrived at Ipswich I thought that we would get a top two finish buying into the “Roy’s Revolution” myth and last season I was more realistic in thinking play-off’s! (why not? you only need 75 points out of a possible 138 available to achieve it!). This season I’m going for promotion once again! Why not there is lots of enthusiasm around and I noticed on “twitter” that even Robbie Savage has tipped us for a play-off place. Whatever happens we need to finish in the top half of the table, see some decent football at Portman Road and get the atmosphere back ( I do think that good performances on the pitch reverberate around the ground therefore creating the feel good factor for the fans), also there is Lee Bowyer to wind things up!I’m going for a 2-1 win tomorrow with “Chops” scoring on his debut. Sharon is going 3-1 so glasses are half full - Blue Army!
