There was a “Ride to the Match” promotion in association with British Cycling for the home match v Crystal Palace in April As the weather was fine we decided to bike the five miles from home to the match, which is easier than the return trip as the hills turn up! There was a prize draw at half-time with a new bike as the top prize and also the first 250 fans who arrived at the ground on their bikes received a letter entitling them to a free ticket to a pre-season friendly. I was lucky enough to win a signed football which I later donated to the Kesgrave Bell for their auction night in aid of the St Elizabeth Hospice, I was pleased that it raised £50 for a worthwhile cause.
So on Saturday we once again biked to the match v Wolves. To be honest I don’t think that I would have paid £15 for a ticket, a tenner seems more reasonable although having said that I think that all season ticket holders should have got free entry.
Anyway it wasn’t a bad game, Lee Bowyer gave us the lead following good work down the left from Aaron Cresswell and Lee Martin. He almost added a spectacular second after the break, hitting the post from distance after spotting the keeper off his line. Wolves ended up winning 2-1 with goals from Stephen Hunt - a deflected shot which wrong footed David Stockdale and an Ebanks-Blake penalty.
From the two pre-seasons that I have seen Aaron Cresswell looks like being a really good signing, the other six new faces all look like they may bring something to the party, although JET may need a few more games to settle in but he does look like a very exciting prospect.
