Fox Hunting On Boxing Day Leicester 1-1 Ipswich 26 12 2011

Christmas comes at a price for all of us, usually by way of a depleted bank account. For Max however it was all about excessive alcohol, after an afternoon with Auntie Jock and Uncle Ivan on beer and wine he turned his attention to Sharon and I in the evening as well as a bottle of Martell. We were consciences about driving the next day so I decided to stop drinking at about 9pm, however Sharon was falling asleep after a busy day of cooking and entertaining (I have to say she cooked as good a Christmas dinner as I’ve ever had - let’s hope that everybody else enjoyed it as much as I did!) so we agreed that she would drive to Leicester the following day allowing me to have another drink with Max! I had a keg of Adnams bitter in the garage (bloody lovely) and Max kept on insisting on filling up my glass “Last one, we’ve got football tomorrow”.  We eventually went to bed at about 2pm after posting a picture of Santa having a fag on Facebook!
Needless to say we were all a little bit lethargic the following morning, Max and me through drink but Shar had the beginnings of some seasonal flu poor girl. We eventually hit the road just after 10.30am after opening the remaining presents which were left over from Christmas day and picked Jack up on the way (Kev and Tracey had brought him a ticket for Christmas so he was naturally excited!) There was more traffic on the road than I expected but we were in Leicester by 1.45pm after a brief stop at McDonalds, Max was getting an appetite back after his visit to see Huey Lewis (and the spews!) Jack was just hungry. The fresh air did nothing for Max and within a couple of minutes he was looking for a discreet place to be alone with his thoughts!
A crowd of over 27,000 turned out or the game at the “King Power Stadium”, last season it was the “Walkers Stadium” a reflection of money talking in the modern game. There was unreserved seating and it was quite ironic that max chose row AA!
The action on the pitch started within 30 seconds of the kick-off, a penalty awarded to Town after Lee Martin was brought down in the box by Paul Konchesky, Kasper Schmeichel however saved Michael Chopra’s rather tame spot kick. Lee Bowyer gave Ipswich the lead 2 minutes later and we looked very comfortable on it, but as often happens we couldn’t add to it. I think a second goal would have killed Leicester off, particularly in the second half. Considering the investment made in the squad (they were lot of peoples favourites for automatic promotion pre-season) they looked fairly ordinary.
In the end it was a tale of two penalties, Leicester were awarded their spot kick following Jason Scotland’s handball in the 69th minute and Paul Gallagher showed Chopra how to strike a dead ball.
So the Boxing Day hunt didn’t quite go to plan, the hounds of Ipswich had the Fox in their sights but couldn’t quite manage to kill it and Max didn’t fancy a glass of Punch or anything remotely alcoholic.

Hangover cure?
Obviously not!
